Power of Attorney

Unfortunately, it is possible you may become seriously ill or mentally incapacitated rendering yourself unable to make important financial decisions.

Power of Attorney is a document that designates another person to make these decisions on your behalf in either of these events.  Your spouse can make some of these decisions without being given power of attorney, but normally cannot sell land without one.  Powers of Attorney can grant broad or specific powers to your agent and last for a fixed or indefinite period of time until your death.  Schwartz and Sinski will help you draft a Power of Attorney that is tailored to your specific needs.

Some examples of powers that can be delegated to others through a power of attorney:

  • Collect social security benefits
  • Make gifts
  • Exercise stock holder rights
  • Make contracts for personal services
  • Entry to safe deposit boxes
  • Deal with legal claims
  • Handle property
  • Borrow money
  • Pay for support
